This is what i got so far for my concept.... i wanted to make a night scene and show case the giant manta ray with the ancient empire on top of it. Thanks
Watch your values, at the moment I am having a hard time seeing any depth. I usually paint in values alone until I am fairly happy with them. Then, I will use a color layer to get color into the piece. After that, you can simply render with color on a new layer until you feel it as finished as you can get given the time allotted. Even when I am working in the color phase I keep a saturation layer on top of my stack so I can turn it on to check my values.

Forgot to mention, you can also use a curves adjustment layer to add color without changing values.
